Heat Pumps

How does Air-to-Water heat pumps work?

Air-to-water heat pumps are among the most efficient heat sources available for warm water central heating. It is the same refrigeration technology that most Kiwi’s are used to with the air-to-air heat pumps that are so popular. Air-to-water heat pumps put the energy into the water that is used in the warm water central heating system rather than blowing air around the home.

If you want to reduce your carbon footprint and increase your central heating energy efficiency, an air-to-water heat pump is an absolute must. It's a simple and eco-friendly choice for your home. Air-to-water heat pumps are electrical appliances that get the most value from a unit of electricity.

Air-to-Water Heat pumps can be used for underfloor or radiator systems but are particularly suited to low-temperature underfloor systems. Domestic hot water can also be produced via a cylinder connected to the system that has a coil inside of it which transfers the heat from your heat pump to your domestic water.

Why would I have a Chofu heat pump for my central heating system?

Chofu Heat pumps are an electric appliance that uses renewable energy in the air to heat water. This makes them environmentally friendly and a good option for underfloor or radiator central heating. Electricity is always on tap and is cleanly produced.

Are Air-to-Water heat pumps the same as my high wall heat pumps?

They are similar but put the energy into water that runs through the underfloor pipes, radiators, and domestic hot water cylinder. The Air-to-Water heat pumps are a little larger physically as they are heating more of the home and there is no indoor unit.

How noisy are they?

The Chofu heat pump is one of the quietest on the market at 51 decibels. However, it’s not ideal to situate them outside a bedroom window as they may be heard in the dead of night. There is no noise of the heating system inside the house.

How efficient is the Air-to-Water heat pump?

They have an industry-leading 4.35 Coefficient of Performance (COP) which gets the most out of a unit of electricity and they feature the latest R32 refrigerant.

Can I install the heat pump inside?

No, they must be installed outside.

Can the heat pump heat my domestic hot water?

Yes, they can divert to heat a cylinder with a coil.

How reliable are Air-to-Water heat pumps?

The Chofu heat pump is made in Japan and offers a 5-year warranty.

Can I change the heat pump when newer technology comes along?

Yes, this is the advantage of a warm water central heating system. When newer technology comes along, you can change the heat source and still have the same delivery system in the house.
